Transport in Koh Lanta

Getting there & away: The alternative accessible to Koh Lanta by boat or air-con minivan.[sahakorn group transport] If you’re coming under your own steam, you’ll need to use the vehicle ferries[car ferry] between Baan Hua Hin [Koh Klang]and Baan Khlong Mak (Koh Lanta Noi) and second ferry port between Ban langsod[Koh Lanta Noi] and Baan saladan[Koh Lanta Yai] These run frequently between 6am and 10pm daily (motorcycle and driver 10Baht per time car/4WD and driver 50/70Baht per time) And stand by 24 hours in case of emergency use.

Passenger Boat

There are two piers at Baan Sala Dan. The passenger jetty is about 100m a few minuites walk from the main strip of shops, situated at the end of road. vehicle ferries leave from a second jetty that’s several kilometres further east. Passenger boats between Krabi’s Khlong Chilard passenger pier and Koh Lanta run from october through May and take 3 hours. Boats depart from Koh Lanta at 8am (450B). In the reverse direction boats leave at 11.00am

These boats will also stop at Koh Jum (for the full 450Baht fare). Boats between Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi run as long as there are enough passengers, which means that services peter out in the low season. Boats usually leave Koh Lanta at 8am and 1pm (350B, 1 hours); in the opposite direction boats leave Koh Phi Phi at 11.30am and 3.30pm. There’s also a high-season boat to Koh Ngai (450B, 1.30 hours), in Trang Province, that leaves Ban Sala Dan at 09.00am and returns from Koh Ngai at 3pm.

Getting around

sam-lor-taxi-lanta

Most resorts send vehicles to meet the passenger ferries and you’ll get a free pick up to your resort. In the opposite direction expect to pay 50B to 100B. Alternatively you can take a motorcycle taxi[samlor]from opposite the walker market  in Ban Sala Dan; fares vary from 50B to 180B depending on distance.

Automatic moped can be rented at most resorts, restaurants, shops, private houses..you name it. Unfortunately very few of these places provide helmets and none provide insurance, so take extra care on the bumpy roads on the south of island. The going rate is 250B per day. Travel guide krabi is one of several places renting out small 4WDs for around 2,000B per day including insurance.
